Barretts Furnishing Stores was established in Milford Haven by Tom Barrett in the year 1897. On his death in 1936 the business continued under the control of his son George R Barrett (one of seventeen children), who opened branches in Haverfordwest and Pembroke Dock. In 1968 Mr George Barrett handed over control of the business to his sons, Grenville and Jimmy. In 1970 they opened a 26,000 sq ft showroom, “The Furniture Centre”, in Snowdrop Lane, Haverfordwest. Later trading under the name “Barrett Interiors” and more recently “Sleeptime Bed Centre”. During 1995 the premises were substantially damaged by fire and after reconstruction were divided into 3 separate units, “Barrett Interiors” continues to trade from one section of the Snowdrop Lane site, specializing in quality Beds, Sofabeds, Carpets and Curtains, Whilst “The Original Factory Shop Limited” and “Chic International Hair Design” Occupy the remainder of the premises.

Mr Grenville Barrett took over sole ownership of the business during the early eighties and remained active in its running right up until his sad death in November of 2008. “Barrett Interiors” and “Sleetime Bed Centre” are now under the control of Mrs Julie Rees (Grenville’s daughter) the fourth generation of the Barrett family to trade in Pembrokeshire. Julie joined the company shortly after leaving college to become the company secretary and director. Julie is married to Mr Jonathan Rees of “Flywales Flying School”, Withybush. They have two daughters Jemma and Hannah.



Julie is supported by her staff, Ian Horsley (General Manager/Buyer) and David Chalker (Sales Consultant). Ian has over thirty years experience in the furniture industry and has worked for the company for most of his working life. David has over four years experience with the company having worked in the printing industry and with RNAD Trecwn.
